my main problem...

Postby timtim » Mon 27 Aug 2007 5:21 pm

My KC is really pretty mild in terms of vision (I'm sure I am very lucky compared to some of you), but the main problem I have dealt with over the last few years is a difficulty bringing things into focus between my two eyes. My left eye has KC pretty significant, and my right eye just barely has it, so I have been told its almost like one of my eyes is nearsighted and the other is farsighted. The best way to describe the fighting between my eyes is by example: If I am trying to focus on something (such as a pole, or the outer edge of a computer monitor), my eyes see a double image of the the edge of it. If I try really hard, I can usually being it into focus, but it usually will go back and forth between one image and two (because my eyes can't hold the focus together). I was just curious if this is anyone else's main problem. I just got RGP's, and they already seem to help with this problem a little bit, but its still happening some. Is this something I will probably just have to deal with as best I can, or is there anything that can fix it?

Timmy Tim,

It is not Inevitable, it can be fixed to a degree (or various degrees which may throw off the comfort, vision and wear-ability of the lens) and even got rid off so much so it is not detectable. It depends if you want to pursue the fit of the lens until there is nothing more that can be done realistically... have you got dry eyes by any amount? May be the tear film on the back surface of the lens needs to be more? (drinking more water, eye drops from your Optican if need be?)

There is a lens (namely a Scleral Contact Lens) which is tried when others fail (having said that they are being used more and more in early stages/grades of KC, as people become accustom to knowing about the benefits of this lens. But as usual keep to your routine check ups if you wear any lens.

May be in fact they need time to settle and your brain may evenually ignore some off it.

All the best

I know that problem! My eyes are so different in vision that even corrected they give me different sized images. I learned to switch from eye to eye, so that I was never really experiencing binoculr vision!

I still use this strategy today. In fact I am so adept at it that I can look through one eye at something near and through the other at something far away. I think that this is a skill that anyone can learn. I see from the forum that other, more recently diagnosed members, adopt exactly the same approach.

All the best

Tim,

I only get what you desrcibe with glasses, mainkly because we can not yet get them powerful enough for the right eye to match the left. I have now pretty much overcome this, but it has taken 6 months to do so.

Never a problem with lenses because the contacts give me the same excellent vision.

Sounds like your brain is still adjusting.
Gareth
