Cataracts

Postby Libby » Sat 10 Mar 2007 9:24 pm

Hi everyone,
Just wondered after reading various posts over the last few weeks - Are we prone to cataracts because we have KC or is it just a co-incidence. Just seemed as though a lot of people were posting stating that they had developed cataracts.

Libby,

We have neary 1500 registerd users and I know not many post, but only about 5 have had cataracts and not all those have had grafts.

So can not say it is related to the drops used for grafts.

I have no idea what age all these people are, but it could be age related.

From being involved at a local group level and on the committee I have not seen any evidence so far to say we are more prone than anyone else to cataracts.

Libby

Maybe we should put your question the other way round: does having KC make us immune to cataracts?

The answer is "no".

I have had one cataract operation, and there are signs of a cataract growing in my other eye, but I am also a very old man, wizened and decrepit :D

No surprise therefore that I have cataracts

Libby, I have not had a graft but have had cataracts in both eyes.

I guess the cause could be age related (although I am not that old!),

I have spent a fair bit of time in the sunshine playing sport and this could have had something to do with it.
