Registering as Partially Sighted

Postby Diane Fitzhenry » Sat 30 Dec 2006 5:46 pm

Can any one help? Is it a must to be registered as Visually impaired or is it a free choice. And what are the benefits of this and how do i go about it? Sorry to sound so stupid but it was just reading through some posts on the site that brought this to my attention.

There is no compulsion about registering as blind or partially sighted.

If YOU decide to go ahead, your consultant ophthalmologist will complete a form (which you contersign) and then send it to your registration authority. In Scotland the registration authority is the local authority, but I do not know about England.

You need the consultant to complete the form, but he cannot do so without your permission and signature.

all the best
