Hi and welcome to the forum.

Being told astigmatism is too high for contacs is possible, but there are other types of lens.

I am post graft and have bad astigmatism and manage with lenses, originaly my right eye was the limit of hwat coulbe be fitted with RGP lenses, but now techniology has changed in the last two years and I have more options to the point even the Kerasoft lens is now suitable.

Sclreal lenses can prove very beneficial for high astigmatism and i knwo some where it is so bad they have towear glasses to get the final correction.

Sclerals are basically a larger lens that also covers the whites of the yes too.

Perhaps this is worth exploring.
Gareth
