Spot on the retina.

Postby Prue B » Sat 26 Aug 2006 12:02 am

Yesterday my family had genetic testing for Alports syndrome, and also because they find it interesting that we have kidney and eye disease in the family.
My daughter who has early signs of KC was found to have a spot on the retina. This showed up both with the oroscope and the photo they took of the back of our eyes. They dont seem to be too worried, but it has never been mentioned before.
I know it is not a KC issue, but have no idea what it means. I was told it could be a scar or a birthmark, and may have been there since birth. I am assuming if it was nasty it would have shown signs to worry them but retina are not an area of the eye I know much about.

I was told the same about my son a few years ago. this has been monitored and no changes observed. When he changed opticians recently his new optician said he would not have mentioned it as it was nothing out of the ordinary.
